Darkness, Light and shadow are very important elements in my recent art practice. The concept runs through from my black boxes, to the clear acrylic box; from the human size black paper cut to the blue wall installation.

The series of “BLUE”, which is composed of clear acrylic boxes, large paintings and blue wall installations, is the most recent work It was part of an art exhibition in Bristol, England in 2015. I attempt to create spaces by using mix media such as wood, paper and acrylic board to bring depth into the art pieces. The colourless boards make the work visually transparent, and provide a delicate touch of privacy. Time has been stopped in a specific moment in these individual spaces. In the meantime, I enjoy how the shadow changes when the cuts are seen from different directions depending on the light source and change of light situation.

Paintings and Cuts

During the art-making processes, I investigate different materials, such as resin, various types of paper, boxes, and clear acrylic board. I also involve watercolour and oil to bring pluralism. Instead of making flat traditional paper cut, I am more interested in bringing depth into the art pieces, to create a space instead of a surface. These spaces can be secretive, soft, cozy, sensuous, passive, peaceful, or isolated; but they are all emotional touches I feel during this cultural shift, and they are all meaningful for me as an experience.

Photography and Digital

Photography is an important art practice in my experience as well. I use photos to present culture and discover humanity. Female portrait is the most common topic in my practice. I am attracted to the idea of creating a mysterious, story-telling scene with female figures.
